Biography: Samuel Huntington was born on April 18, 1927. He was a political scientist who was known for his analysis of the relationship between the military and the civil government. He graduated from Yale University and received a doctorate from Harvard where he taught. Huntington was 81 years old when he passed away in 2008 in New York, New York, USA.

Theory: Samuel P. Huntington’s theory stated that liberal democracy and communism will create conflicts between civilizations. He divided the world into seven civilizations; Western, Latin America, Confucian, Japanese, Islamic, Hindu, and Slavic-Orthodox. This is specifically due to the fact that the civilizations will fight over economic and military power.

Proof: If you take a look at the world today, there are many problems that are based on the “Clash of Civilizations”. Almost every conflict between civilizations is based on religious faith and belief. If you take a look at the Middle East right now you are able to see that there are two religions there that are going head to head in the name of there own faith. The struggle between the Palestinians and the Jews has been going on for a while and never seems to stop. Recently it stopped due to a peace agreement but unfortunately because of another violent act it started up again. In today’s most clashes between civilizations is based on the hatred for one another and on their religious faith and belief.

Pros and Cons:

Pro: This theory is very original and it could be related to the ongoing conflicts today. His idea of “Clash of Civilizations” is something that could be related to now and for years to come as the end of the fight between religions isn’t evident.

Con: The problem with his theory is that he ignored the ever changing and diverse cultures, such as the indigenous people. People change with time and that facts of life change too. Many religions forget the past and embrace another person because of the fact that there is really nothing to hate.
